The VE3 and ER101 coastal roads connect Ponta do Sol with the rest of the island. While Madeira’s roads can be steep and winding, modern tunnels and highways have made driving much easier. 

Tip: When travelling by car, it is helpful to allow extra time for mountain routes, use GPS navigation, and consider choosing an automatic vehicle if you are unfamiliar with steep terrain.
